i really have to watch what i eat, but everyone who had read the previous post would have prob concluded that.

anyway after the mad dash through the departure halls all the way to somewhere at the end, where our boarding gate was, there was the security clearance, which took some time. previously, the immigration checkpoint took even more time. anyway, by the time we got to the gate, the airline staff told us there was no way we could board the flight any more. they seemed so polite / jovial abt it that at first i wondered whether they were joking and would let us onto the plane or something at the next moment. the guy i tried to negotiate with was smiling all the time, for instance.

anyway, after making our depressing way out of the boarding gate, through the departure hall, and out through the immigration checkpoint, with some paperwork being filled by us and the airline staff, we finally reclaimed our luggage and attempted to book another flight, on jetstar, online, scheduled at 8.50pm. the internet terminal we used wasn’t the most user-friendly, and apparently it indicated that there were no flights or fares available on the date. this was at 7.10pm, or thereabouts.

following which, we went to the jetstar check-in counter (since their sales counter was closed) to try our luck. there was still space on board, and the total was abt 10,500+ baht for both of us, which elgin paid using visa. yes, as he commented, visa does save lives sometimes. perhaps they could consider using such a scenario for some advert…

abit costly, yes, it works out to over 200 SGD for each of us. well, as another friend (whom some of u can guess) has mentioned before, ‘any problem that can be solved with money isn’t a problem’ (tsao, 2008). true, so i shouldn’t dwell upon it. but it doesn’t absolve the fact that i was the root cause of the entire mess. ah well. i feel guilty that i caused elgin to miss his flight; yet simultaneously, if i had been stranded alone, i would have been in much deeper shit, not to mention prob would have freaked out or something. so, i’m thankful to him that he accompanied me to the loo.

i’ll leave it to the reader to choose to extrapolate on this or not. hopefully we don’t miss any more flights in future… once in a lifetime is more than enough…
