Dilute milo runs through the veins of Cambodia

After a ride in a minivan packed with 18 people, of which 11 were ang moh tourists, 2 locals in the bus and 1 local on the roof, the boat ride to Battambang was somewhat more sedate. We set off westwards from a very muddy jetty near Southeast Asia’s largest lake, the Tonle Sap. The rising sun behind us illuminated the way ahead.

there is no gray, only black and white and what to do with it

Today we visited the last attraction in our itinerary for Cambodia, Phnom Sampeau.

Phnom Sampeau neatly encapsulated and symbolised what Cambodia is and means to me: a curious, amusing and more often than not sad amalgam of stark juxtapositions and contradictions. Think of Bangkok without its cockiness, injected with loads of sobriety and historical baggage.

report from the food front

I tried a Cambodian egg today. The embryo inside was half-developed and it was half-cooked with charcoals before it was served to me.
