While waiting for roger to pass me his camera-USB connector thingy (whatever it’s called), i shall ramble on at will. Slept (in the same room) with chunwee last night, with the ‘murderous-looking’ naked fan blades towards me.. [sub photo]. anyway, had a rather good sleep, waking up the few customary times at night (though there was this weird dream abt being attacked by 28 dogs, a dream possibly ‘inspired’ by the presence of this large black canine we discovered right outside our room the next morning). despite the still, muggy air with slightly itch-inducing bedsheets, i slept well enough to not hear the alarm the next morning. June 25, 2008Well, as promised, the second day of our trip proved considerably more interesting than the first. The day did kick off with a minor disappointment as we had risen bright and early with the intention of observing the sunrise; we were to find, at 6am, the sun long since in the sky. This disappointment was tempered by our discovery shortly after that our view was facing west and we would not have been able to catch a beautiful sunrise anyway. Read the rest of this entry »
crickets taste like vegetables taste like crickets
June 25, 2008Fried crickets taste earthy, which is exactly what the vegetables we had at lunch tasted like. We snapped up a bagful of fried crickets from this lady selling a whole basket of them at the Central Market, where we had our breakfast, and consumed them at the Khmer Borane Restaurant together with our lunch. Day 2 – Things look different in the light
June 25, 2008So we woke up bright and early at 6am to catch the sunrise, only to realise that the sun had woken up before us. And we also realised that our guesthouse faced the lake on the west, so we could not hae caught the sun rising in the east. A brilliant start to our day. Also, the lake looked nothing like the fantasy we imagined it to be. It was blanketed with various aquatic plants and dilapidated looking structures around the lake fed their sewage into it. Day 1 – Settling in
June 25, 2008As first days go, today was rather uneventful. This is probably because we arrived in Cambodia at 8pm (7pm local time).
Before we set off, we took the obligatory group photo while awaiting departure. It was quite the exercise in self-taken photography. Unfortunately, I can’t upload my photos now so the imagination will have to suffice. Here’s the first picture I took here:
